The Other Side of Here
A Family’s Journey
by Ross A. MacInnes

When a compassionate judge gives an angry and troubled young man the choice between going to a mysterious horse ranch in the western Rockies or going to jail, the choice seems obvious. But when he arrives with his parents at an old hunting lodge on Lake Sandoza, they soon realize this isn’t like any place they’ve been before. Torn apart by frustration and bitterness after years of trying to control their wayward son, the parents are at their wits’ end. Under the guidance of their patient and intriguing hosts, the family must open their hearts, challenge their beliefs and push themselves to change in ways they never thought they could. Set against a backdrop of vast and stunning landscapes, The Other Side of Here shows us that even when we are in our deepest despair, sometimes the kindness of complete strangers can be our salvation.

Ross MacInnes discovered his life-long passion for horses when he was only seven years old. Discovering the intricacies of handling huge draft horses and learning how to work with cattle under the guidance of his grandfather, Ross continued developing his knowledge and skills for over sixty years, honing his talents under the demanding protocols of the famed RCMP Musical Ride instructors. After retiring from a career in law enforcement, he returned to his roots, creating a family-owned horse ranch in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. He and his wife Dee have been married for forty-eight years, and have two children and six grandchildren, as well as forty horses, some cats and dogs, and thousands of acres of bush, coolies and grazing land. For over four decades they have worked with high-risk youth and families in crisis. He is the author of two best-selling books, Children in the Game, and I Am Cadillac. Both have achieved critical acclaim.
