A Servicemen's Guide to Being Civvylized
by Stephen "Sticks" Gallard CD

The Military gives and it takes. Sometimes it leaves its mark long after you get out. This book is designed for those who have been there and are visited by the gremlins still. When things look bleak or seem to much, i hope reading this and remembering some of the humour we did will get you through.

After 20 years in, numerous "incidents" I know what serving can do to you. Hopefully when those dark moments come to visit the humour in this will take you another place where light replaces the dark, and you can soldier on. If you think you need help go and get it, never go it alone, a) you don't have to and b)it is not tough to hold it in, its stupid.

I started in the Military in 1982 after convincing the Recruiting Officer that 16 1/2 was ok in the infantry in a military that still had Korean vets around. After a few years i realized i did not like walking so transferred to the Military Police, mostly because i thought MP meant miserable person. Seems i was good at that job maybe too good as after the 4th senior officer caught by me, and not being good at politics, i found myself a driver examiner/instructor. I also taught leadership and basic and always with an eye to ensuring my troops were ready to handle anything. Even to this day many keep in contact and ask for help.
