How Are You Now?
Selected Questions
by Christopher A. Taylor

“There are many ways of peering into life and then responding; and by responding, peering further.” The poems in How Are You Now? peer into life. They “don’t try to nail things down.” They “pry them loose instead.” They question our very foundation, exposing the innate wobbliness of reason, religion, selfhood, purpose. They open up a world of possibilities, explore aging, memory, grief, the reliability of change, the physics of wind, the push and pull of want and need. Christopher A. Taylor finds meaning in the smallest observations: a pink toque, the sound of leaves falling from the trees, a stump in twilight, a woman running for a streetcar, a black lamp, butterflies, and crows. This poetry collection, organized into six sections—“New World”, “A Hollow in the Mind”, “The Nub of It”, “The Secret of Music”, “Into the River”, and “How Are You Now?”—will be of interest to anyone who likes contemporary poetry; and some who don’t.

Praise for Christopher A. Taylor’s Writing Shedding Knowledge "Christopher Taylor’s poems move between orient and occident, light and dark. They celebrate human rites of passage and engage in moments of intensity and change, a change which he finds often signaled by shifts in the external world, in known and familiar landscapes. Taylor’s poems lead the reader into luminous meditation, eulogy and elegy." —Karen Mulhallen, Editor of Descant This May Sound Strange "Christopher A. Taylor took it upon himself to self-publish and the poetic world is a better place for his act of courage... Taylor is ... a man of beautiful thoughts and laughter." —Norma Dunning, ARC Poetry Magazine Travel Light & Other Stories "These stories tackle life’s big questions: What are we doing here? How can we make the world a better place? Taylor’s prose connects past and present and roams confidently across lives and landscapes and shifting states of mind. This is short fiction conceived on a large scale that emanates from a deep intelligence, questioning our assumptions and taking nothing at face value." —Ian Colford, The Fiddlehead Finding Her Gone "A fine, magnetic debut novel." —Kirkus Reviews
